Our upcoming conversion to electronic health record systems has created an opening for a Director of Health Information Management. Reporting
directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will serve as the custodian of the medical record
and will work closely with the CIO and the IT staff on information management and planning.
The HIM Director will lead our Health Information Management team and play an integral role
in managing, organizing, and directing all functions of our growing and evolving Medical Records
department. In this key position, central to all of our reimbursement efforts, you will create
systems, processes, and service standards to support the delivery of HIM functions; lead and
support all related quality improvement initiatives; and supervise direct reports, while overseeing
a staff of approximately 30 FTEs.
Qualified candidates will have 5+ years of experience in an acute care hospital setting, with at
least 2 years in a management or supervisory capacity and RHIA or RHIT certification (RHIA
preferred). Experience with a large, integrated EMR – Cerner, Meditech, Epic, etc. – is highly
desired. The candidate should have a strong understanding of current HIPAA and privacy
practices law along with knowledge of all regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, and
CMS, as well as all rules and regulations that govern reimbursement by Medicare and other health
insurances. Applied knowledge of DRGs and coding principles including ICD- 9 and CPT is also
a mandatory skill.
