AHIMA Announces Grace W. Myers Award
AHIMA HAS INTRODUCED an award
recognizing healthcare delivery organizations that exemplify HIM excellence and innovation. The Grace W.
Myers Award was announced in late
March during Health Information Professionals Week.
Recipients of the award will embody core
AHIMA values. They will serve as examples
of effective and innovative approaches
to HIM. The first recipients will be announced at the AHIMA 2012 Annual
Convention. AHIMA’s values include:
x Quality: Demonstrated by an abiding commitment to innovation,
relevance, and value in programs,
products, and services
x Integrity: Demonstrated by openness in decision-mak-
ing, honesty in communication and activity, and ethical
practices that earn trust and support collaboration
x Respect: Demonstrated by appreciation of the value of
differing perspectives, enjoyable experiences, courteous
interaction, and celebration of achievements that ad-
vance our common cause
x Leadership: Demonstrated by visionary thinking, deci-
sions responsive to membership and mission, and ac-
countability for actions and outcomes
Nominee Criteria
AHIMA members are encouraged to nominate their organiza-
tions. To be considered for the award, an organization must:
x Contribute to a patient-centered model of healthcare,
demonstrated through patient and consumer education
on industry issues (e.g., advance directives, PHRs) and
providing health information in a timely and efficient
manner (e.g., reasonable information release time)
x Use electronic health records and integrate the HIM de-
partment in the transition process
x Demonstrate it values credentialed HIM professionals
x Verify that a large percentage of HIM employees are cre-
dentialed
x Employ an HIM professional in a leadership position
x Engage employees in communication about HIM
x Offer continuing education and development opportuni-
ties for HIM staff or provide financial support for these
activities
