AHIMA Grace Award
AHIMA’s newly announced Grace Award honors
healthcare delivery organizations that demonstrate
effective and innovative approaches in using health
information to deliver quality healthcare.
Nomination applications are now available at
www.ahima.org/Grace, and the submission deadline is June 30. The award will be presented at the
84th AHIMA Annual Convention and Exhibit in Chicago, September 29 through October 4.
Evaluation criteria include:
x How the healthcare delivery organization con-
tributes to a patient-centered model of care
x How the organization is advancing electronic
health records
x How HIM is integrated throughout the work-
place
The award judges will include professionals rep-
resenting healthcare delivery organizations, health
information professionals, and HIM associations—
including AHIMA.
ICD-10-PCS: An Applied Approach
This newly published, comprehensive text is written specifically for inpatient coding education. It is
devoted to learning and mastering the process of
building codes in the ICD-10-PCS coding system.
The text begins with a detailed review of the
structure and design of the ICD-10-PCS system,
including a description of the code format and official ICD-10-PCS Coding Guidelines. A thorough
description of coding concepts unique to ICD-10-
PCS and the steps in building an ICD-10-PCS code
are included.
Each of the body systems from the main section
of ICD-10-PCS, Medical and Surgical, are examined, with a thorough review of the function and
anatomy of the system, along with the root operations, body parts, approaches, devices, and qualifiers that are used in each body system. This same
process is used in reviewing all other sections.
Extensive self-tests, coding practice exercises,
and case study coding reinforce the information
in the text. A CD-ROM of additional resources and
activities is included.
