Chief HIMS
Serves as manager of the Health
Information Management (HIM)
Section in the Health Administration
Service. Plans, direct, organizes,
coordinates and controls the HIM program at the facility and the community
based outpatient clinics. This includes
the Medical Records Scanning Unit,
Release of Information, Medical
Record Coding, Transcription, and
Tumor Registry. Advises staff on legal,
regulatory and The Joint Commission
requirements for health information management issues. Conducts
research and studies, analyzes data,
prepares reports, and makes recommendation on HIM issues and initiatives. Serves as Contracting Officer’s
Technical Representative (COTR) on
various contracts. Works to assure
continued and smooth transition to
the electronic record. Manages fiscal
control points. Serves as resource
and subject matter expert on a variety
of HIM topics for facility, VISN and
national issues. RHIA is preferred, but
not required.
