THIS ISSUE OF the Journal of AHIMA includes brief biographies and photographs of the 2017 AHIMA Election candidates. Detailed biographies, as well as candidates’ answers to the following position statement questions, are available in the online version
of the AHIMA Ballot at https://my.ahima.org/pages/ballot/landing.aspx.
This year, the AHIMA Board of Directors candidates were asked to answer the question: “AHIMA’s mission is: ‘Transforming
healthcare by leading HIM, informatics, and information governance (IG).’ Please describe how you would support and contribute
to this mission, including providing leadership and fostering growth in the three key areas of HIM, informatics, and IG. You may
choose to include specific ideas, steps, and plans, as well as opportunities and challenges.” Candidates for the Commission on
Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) were asked: “‘The recognition of CCHIIM-certified
professionals’ role in maintaining and enhancing quality health information for the safety of the public and the improvement of
healthcare’ is a core CCHIIM value. How do you see the Commission supporting this value in the rapidly changing healthcare en-
vironment?” And the Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) candidates were asked: “What are the top three most important
attributes graduates of a HIM program should have in order to advance their career to a leadership role? How do we as a profession
support these graduates in attaining these attributes?”
